Technology

Through collaborative local projects, federal and state grants, and the federal E-Rate funding program, the Iberia Parish School Board has been able to allocate over six million dollars toward technology initiatives in the past six years. We now have over 6,000 computers parishwide with every teacher having at least one computer in his/her classroom.

All teachers use advanced technology to perform administrative tasks such as lesson planning, grading, and communicating between school and the home. With our recent purchase of a district-wide student information software package, all teachers have access to a computerized gradebook. This enables parents to view attendance, discipline record, and grades via the Parent Command Center. Daily lesson plans are being designed in OnCourse, a web-based lesson plan book and website editor, which automates the creation, management, and sharing of lesson plans and teacher websites. This allows parents to find information reguarding class activities, assignments, and homework.

Every school in the system has a high-speed connection to the Internet. All classrooms have Internet capability. To improve student achievement, teachers must know how to access and use the vast resources of the Internet. The policy of the system, therefore, has been to require teachers to participate in a six-hour training program before their Internet connection is activated.

One of the goals of the technology program is to work towards a 5 to 1 student to computer ratio in all classrooms with a large screen display for students and teachers to share work.
